All NGP Games will have Digital and Physical Release

3 Comments | posted

It wasn’t long ago when Sony said that it would be far too difficult to release digital copies of all their PSP titles. Moreover, it would be even more challenging to make such digital releases become available simultaneously. With some new statement’s made by SCEE president Andrew House, that is no longer a spectacle of the future.

“One thing we learnt from PSP, is that we want to have simultaneous delivery in digital and physical for NGP,” House told MCV. “Just to clarify that, all games that appear physically will be made available digitally.” In a gaming world where digital releases are becoming increasingly common, it’s no surprise that we’re beginning to see things like this happen. It is, however, exciting to see it occurring, and the fact that both physical and digital copies of games will be released simultaneously. No more waiting weeks for the digital copy of a game that’s already been released!

Despite the pleasant news, there are still various aspects of the NGP that remain to be confirmed. This includes NGP backwards compatibility, which is by no means going to be a simple task for Sony. Given it will not use UMD format, it is a difficult decision Sony must make to please the PSP community. News on the NGP’s backwards compatibility will surely be released in the near future, so stay tuned for that.

    I thought there was no storage on the NGP. How are you going to save all your downloads, SD cards?

      Well knowing how Sony operates is safe to assume “NGP” will have a new Sony patented storage capability or it will just use Memory Stick. SD card are huge for thr NGP. I remember when I bought an 8gb MS back in 08 for $150.

        @Hitokiri
        the cards are manifactured from next to nothing, but on a huge scale it can be a risk so the publishers include asurance in the price, and the selers higher the price cuz they know stupid consumers are gona buy them anyway
        but on the psp2 where its a sucsesor to an wery well established platform, it shouldent be a problem to release games on sd cards…
