Anonymous Attacks Sony Employees

“Hackers on steroids” group Anonymous recently declared war on Sony for their legal action taken against George Hotz, a.k.a. Geohot. They already began their attack by doing multiple distributed denial-of-service attacks (DDoS) to Sony’s various Playstation websites as well as the Playstation Store.

However, it seems that a small group broke away from the larger group, called OpSony. This smaller group, named SonyRecon, is attacking Sony on a more personal level. The creator of SonyRecon, a user named randomtask, announced the formation of his new group on the OpSony IRC.

ok i made a chan #sonyrecon for people to gather and contribute dox, and work towards a common goal of finding and information and detailing useful targets

some one got the phone number of the head of the sony company in #sonyrecon

“Dox” refers to any type of personal information that one can use for fraud or other malicious activities involving someone’s identity. randomtask also added:

sony , the judge and sonys lawyers are all valid targets

Personally, I find these attacks petty, ridiculous, and morally wrong, but I’ll let you decide.

  1. “Personally, I find these attacks petty, ridiculous, and morally wrong”, yup, says it all.

    • The DDoS’ing is just stupid. They’re protecting consumer rights by not allowing Sony’s consumers to use their services? It’s like being forced into a boycott that I personally don’t want to be a part of.

The other stuff needs no explanation as to why it’s just wrong.

  2. This whole thing gets more ridiculous the more I hear of it.

  3. Shhh, they can HEAR YOU.

    • Don’t worry, we’re protected by backtrace-proof forcefields . . . at least I hope The Dean installed that plugin.

  4. Hell hath no fury like a group of neck-beards scorned!!!!

  5. M$ last desperate effort to hold onto that minuscule 360’s sales lead till they reveal the Xbox 720 this year?

  6. these guys are beyond stupid. do they really think sony is going to drop any litigation now? all they’re doing is adding fuel to the fire on sonys behalf. threaten the judge… that’ll certainly get them on your side. referring to the average consumer as ‘collateral damage’? you’re a bunch of cyber bullies. you’re not fighting the good cause, you’re a bunch of spoiled kids crying because mommy will not give you a cookie.

  7. it was hilarious reading this,
these recon guys are so f-ed
