If you’re reading this on our site, it probably goes without saying that you know what Heavy Rain is. The PlayStation 3 exclusive developed by Quantic Dream of Indigo Prophecy fame. Many has dubbed the movie a masterpiece, an interactive movie and a stunning piece of development for the console generation. It goes without saying that the game has also received criticism as well — much like any title.
Despite all of this, David Cage, the main man behind Heavy Rain knows that with the release of of Quantic Dream’s title, it has sent a message to the gaming industry itself.
“It’s a message. Before Heavy Rain was released, I often said that this game would send a message to this industry, whether it was a commercial success or failure, it’s gonna mean something,” said Cage. “If its a failure, it means the industry doesn’t want anything different, they want the same games again and again, and games should target teens and teenagers. But if it’s a success, it’s gonna open doors to other people and say look, you can try something different…”
“Now we have theses first [sales] figures, this is the message, the message that gamers sent to the industry: give us something new, give us something different.”
We applaud Cage because we also happen to agree. Developers need to find more ways to bring creativity and uniqueness to the industry outside of the genre’s we’ve grown to already love and enjoy. We look forward to seeing whatever is next in the lineup of titles from Cage himself.
Cage is a mastermind, I respect his view to the whole thing. =D
heavy Rain is surely an outsdanding game in my game collection for this Gen.
Well I don’t like the way he makes it sound. Does it mean I’m a teenager too just because I liked playing Uncharted 2 (Or have the same taste teenagers have?).
That’s the kind of message I got from that.
I’m glad developers are able to find a compromise between creativity and profits.
@Dream_Lion Cage was saying that alot of teens like games with actions, mainly FPS’s and TPS he comments saying that with the Success of Heavy Rain, it is pointing out that other game developers are able to create something dynamic and new and be successful compared to the current theme of FPS in today’s gaming Industry
If it is sending a message to the industry, here’s to hoping that they’re actually listening and follow through with unique game experiences of their own.
damn right this is a message to the industry! i hope he makes this into a sub-genre of its own!
