Obscure Gaming Cosplay Sensations

[Editor's Note: All images are copyrighted and belong solely to their photographers and models] It's been roughly nine months since we last launched a cosplay sensations feature on PlayStation University. In that feature we gave out a handful of prizes and tried to make things as fun as possible for everyone. This time around, just in time for the Holidays, we're looking to do the same thing once more. Giveaway: inFamous Official Soundtrack x3 (Winners Below)

Game soundtracks are something that have been around for an awfully long time, yet have never reached the level of appreciation that they should from the gaming community. Lately, more and more games have been releasing a soundtrack of sorts due to the extravagant amount of detail and effort that has gone into the sound of games through composition and delivery. One of the coolest guys to work with in the industry is undoubtedly Amon Tobin. Tobin is one of the key contributors on the inFamous soundtrack alongside Jim Dooley, JD Mayer and Martin Tillman. These three extraordinary gentlemen helped compose and create the subconscious, emotion driving music that was featured in the background of the game. While many of you may be unaware of it and have totally missed that these strong elements existed in the game, the sound of music has always had a strong ability to push things like your emotions and your adrenaline while gaming. Thankfully, those of you who did happen to miss the presence the music had in a game like inFamous, you'll now have the chance to redeem yourself and be one of the cooler geeks while doing so. In cooperation with TopDollarPR (the company that represents many of the soundtracks you love and do take note of), PlayStation University is able to give away THREE copies of the Official inFamous Soundtrack. Community Points: Free $20 PSN Card Every Month (Update)

Today, we've decided to roll out our latest and permanent Community Interactive Feature for PlayStation University. I understand and appreciate our community thoroughly and I also recognize that without our faithful and loyal readers, we wouldn't be growing at the rate we currently are. For that, I thank all of you. However, with your daily visits and interaction with the website, it has helped create advertisement revenue due to the ads you see displayed on the front page as well as our forum (sign up here!). This revenue has been a huge help in aiding the sites increasing server costs (due to growth) as well as making it possible to purchase review copies of games and to give away things on the site. For those of you who know me from a previous website or have grown to know me here, you probably know that I like giving back to the community as much as possible and whenever I can honestly afford to. I do my best to make things happen and today, it's good to know that we can finally roll out a Community Points initiative that I've wanted to open up from Day 1. Alright. If you scroll down the page and look below where the "Polls" section is on the sidebar, you'll notice a new leader board that lists the "Top Users" of the community. The Top Users section has been removed, but everyone is still accumulating points on the website. At the end of every month, I will make the leader board public once more so people can see who the potential winners are . Currently, everyone should be at roughly 0 points. Users will be able to increase the point total by logging into your PlayStation University WordPress Account here (Sign up here if you haven't) and by leaving a comment on an article (Spam comments will be deleted and you will LOSE points if this happens -- please keep it appropriate).

Rules

Users who go back 2+ months to spam old articles for free points will be disqualified from that month's competition. This will be monitored closely.

Comment discussion between users is acceptable, but keep it completely on-topic and relevant to the news post being commented on.

Personal discussions will be deleted and subject to point deductions.

The Top 8 Users of every month will be thrown into a hat and their names drawn to receive the $20 PSN Card.

At the end of each month, the Top 8 Users of the month will receive an email to the same email account they signed up with, congratulating and thanking them for their active contribution to the website and ONE will also receive a Code redeemable on the PlayStation Network to add $20 into your PSN Account Wallet. In order to redeem this code, you will need to create a North American account. However, this Monthly Prize is open to ALL readers from around the world. Just to be fair, staff members will not be eligible for these prizes (Authors on the front page), however, moderators and subscribers to the forum will all be eligible as will regular members. As the site continues to grow, the denomination of the PSN card that can be won will increase as well. UPDATE: Guys, this initiative isn't for you to abuse. Those found abusing this generosity by doing nothing but spamming all of the articles (even those 2-3 months old) will be disqualified for that month's competition. This is set out to be fair and should remain such. I've removed a massive amount of comments and have adjusted both Xero's and Dr. Moogle's scores. If you guys continue the ridiculousness of it all, you both will be disqualified from this month's contest. I do not want our community turning into a spamfest. If we can't do something like this appropriately, we just won't do it at all.

ModNation Racers Beta Code Giveaway

On December 18th, PlayStation 3 owners will be able to redeem a code on the PlayStation Network allowing them to download the public beta for ModNation Racers. Since its unveiling at E3 2009, ModNation Racers quickly became one of the most anticipated titles of the entire show. Mixing the Play. Create. Share. genre with the fun racing style of cart racing, United Front Games displayed a title that should bring families together and creative minds out of the woodshed much like LittleBigPlanet has. There are a couple of ways you could have landed one of these limited beta codes. One way was to purchase a copy of the Game of the Year edition of LittleBigPlanet for PlayStation 3 while the other was to sign up on an official Sony website and pray that you were selected. However, thanks to ModNation Racers Community Manager, Russell Ramone, MNR fanatics can now get their grubby little hands on a beta code right here at PlayStation University! That's right -- We have tons upon tons of codes to give away and we'll be running the contest until December 17th at 11:59 PM CST. PlayStation University: User’s Choice Awards

Welcome to the inaugural PlayStation University: User's Choice Awards. Over the last week or so, we've been running a nomination thread on our community forums so that you, the user, could nominate your favorite games for our yearly video game awards. I'd like to thank everyone who participated and everyone who helped us in creating our polls for each category. We've decided to go with 13 Main Categories this year and if everything goes smoothly, we'll expand on that number next year with some wildly inventive categories to add a little fun into the mix. As promised, I have CDs, DVDs, and a few games to give away to all of you who vote and take part in the process. If you're wondering how you win, I'll tell you! Inside the Game: FIFA 10/Pint Shot Riot

Inside the Game is a new feature here at PlayStation University that allows us to interview bands featured in certain Electronic Arts titles which also includes giving away two copies of the game and two signed albums of the band as well. Some of you who know me, know that I started this style of feature awhile ago and hopefully you look forward to seeing future installments from us as we continue to try and bring you the best content possible from around the industry -- including the music that helps make the game. This time around, I interviewed a band from Europe known as Pint Shot Riot. Some of you United Kingdom lads may have heard of these guys and admittedly, I hadn't before this interview. However, their sound is fresh and they bring an eclectic mix of melodies to their tracklist that most other groups don't provide on one album. I had the opportunity to talk to one of the members of the band named Baby Dave. We discussed what it's like living around those footy hooligans and how the band came to fruition. PS University: FIFA 10 is without a doubt one of the largest titles released year in and year out. What type of exposure and reaction have you guys received as a band with your music being featured in the game? Baby Dave: We’ve noticed more interest online for sure, and we’ve had kind messages from many different countries. I suppose when we put our album out, which should be early next year, we will see what kind of impact it has.
