Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI come to PSN this week UPDATE: Or not.

I don’t get a lot of opportunities to brag, so when one presents itself you can be damn sure that I’ll take it. In this case, both Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy VI, two of the absolute greatest games of all-time, will see release on the PlayStation Store tomorrow as PSone Classics — and only 17 months after I bitched about their absence from PSN! Yay me!

It’s not clear if the games will come as a single download in their original Final Fantasy Chronicles form, or as separate titles. What I do know is that I’m buying both immediately, and that you should, too. Science has indisputably proven that you can’t own the games on too many different platforms, so go ahead and ready your wallets.

With this news, two of the eight games (or three of nine, if that’s how you’re counting)ย on that list will be up on the North American store. I AM THE TRUTH!

UPDATE: As quickly as my hopes and dreams were built up, they’ve come crashing down as Sony confirmed via Twitter that the games WON’T be coming to PSN after all.

Truly, this is the worst thing that’s happened to the PlayStation brand this year.

  1. I really want to play both but I’m afraid I may be turned off by dated visuals on an HD TV. I just can’t bring myself to complete FF7 because of it, so hopefully these aren’t the same.

  2. Apparently it was not so for this week.

  3. Wait it’s not happening at all? Or just this week? WAT

    • It’s bound to happen eventually since FFVI is on the EU and JP PSN stores (tho no Chrono Trigger anywhere), but Sony haven’t given a date. They’ve only acknowledged that they fudged up.
