The latest issue of popular Japanese magazine, Shonen Jump, has laid out the character progression system being used in Final FantasyXIII. As most of you FF players know, Square has always changed the way character’s progress throughout the course of a game whether it be via materia or my personal favorite, the sphere grid. According to Adriasang, who has given a break down of what the magazine says, Final Fantasy XIII utilize a Crystal Points system that allows players to gain points as they level throughout the game.
Much like the Sphere Grid, these points are then placed in a circular grid that will evolve depending on how you distribute the Crystal Points. It works similar to past titles where Fire leads to Fira, etc. Considering the sphere grid was one of my favorite ways to develop a character, this creates even more anticipation for me as a fan, but it should for fans of the same grid as well.
Final Fantasy XIII is scheduled for a December release in Japan followed by a release in North America around April.
