Final Fantasy Versus XIII sees return of World Map and more

Tetsuya Nomura recently sat down to answer some questions over at the Japanese Square Enix members area and because of that, we now know a little bit more about Versus XIII. As many of you already do know, Final Fantasy Versus XIII is a PlayStation 3 exclusive, thus it’ll be able to take full advantage of the architecture of the PlayStation 3 and it’s storage medium, Blu-ray Disc. So, what can you expect?

Well, when Nomura was asked how far along the game was, he stated β€œThings are not connected yet, every part is moving along separately. However, we have gotten airships working over the world map.”

This should indicate that not only is the world map and airships returning to the franchise, but that open towns are a possibility as well. If you’re going to be able to fly to certain aspects of the map throughout the game, chances are, you’ll be visiting towns.

How do you guys feel about this?

  1. I am very happy about this news if it is true, because iam sorry but ff13 is just not an rpg the first 25houres of the game is an action adventure game.

  2. Seems my wish for info was somewhat answered .

This is great news but I’m still anxious to see actual gameplay footage and not just cutscenes. Feels like it’s been so long that we’ve had an RPG with an actual overworld. Last one I can remember was Tales of Symphonia for the GameCube, that I’ve played of course. Of course the classics will always go out to Final Fantasy prior to X. If they can somehow capture the feel of those…

  5. There’s so much potential for this game, I’m praying that it delivers.

  6. I forgot this was even existed. Depending on how much I enjoy FFXIII, I may or not pick this up. It still seems weird that SE decided to go this route with FFXIII.

  7. OMG if this is what I think it is… :O AWESOME! Love the world map!!! and Airships. That’s one of my favorite moments in Final Fantasy :D. Got kinda angry when I learned that FFXIII wasn’t getting a world map πŸ™ . Kudos to you Square-Enix.

  8. Thank God. Now they should tell us if we’ll be able to ride Chocobos!

  9. I’ve been waiting for some more versus info.

  10. You better not make this multiplat or I’ll be mad at you SquareEnix! Really, I can’t wait for this game, I miss the traditional rpgs with towns and big world maps, and the the little things that made Jrpgs so special.

  11. Oh looks like this will be an epic FF.

  12. Can’t wait. Hopefully it’s out early next year πŸ™‚

  13. Yeah, total win on their part. No wonder the title’s name is “Versus XIII”, lol xD

  14. Hell yeah. I can’t tell how much I miss open world maps, not like FFX or FFXII (although FFXII was massive).
I haven’t played FFXIII yet, but I feel THIS should be the real FFXIII not the other way around.

  15. nice!! things are sounding pretty good atm! dont go and pull another XIII, SE!

  16. I hope they don’t make it multiplat. Final Fantasy IS a Playstation and Nintendo franchise.

  17. nice. I’ve been waiting for some info on this game. If they make this a multiplat, well, I might not pick it up(considering on what happened to the recently released FAIL RPG called FFXIII)

@1 You obviously don’t know what an action adventure game is…

  19. Open world maps with a good travelling system sounds interesting. Sandbox towns would be kwl as well. Would prefer this than the more linear style of game. A open world also has endless possibilties for the game and can utilise the ps3s power.

  20. dont know why everybody is hating FF XII was a good game for me, it aint no FF VIII but it satisfied me beyond what i expected after reading all the reviews
