God of War: Ghost of Sparta announced for PSP

Were you as saddened about God of War III being the last in the series as we were? Don’t be. Today, Sony has officially announced that Kratos is returning to the PlayStation Portable in the form of God of War: Ghost of Sparta. Considering the series success, this isn’t exactly unexpected and it should be as great as the original release on the handheld — God of War: Chains of Olympus.

Red Dawn Studios is developing the title and happen to be the same team behind Chains of Olympus. Furthermore, this new iteration promises to bring “over 25% more gameplay, an improved weapon system, and new magical powers — all enjoyed anytime, anywhere.”

The Official PlayStation Blog had the following to say:

“As for the storyline, this new adventure will serve as a prequel of sorts, picking up where God of War left off. Ghost of Sparta tells the story of Kratos’ ascension to power as the God of War. In his quest to rid the nightmares that haunt him, Kratos must face his dark past to prove his worthiness to the Gods — a journey that will reveal the origins of lost worlds and finally answer long-awaited questions about Kratos’ tattoo, scar, and family.”

We’ve included four screenshots below.

So this isn’t the PS3 epilogue I’ve been hoping for? :( Oh well, I guess I can get rid of my copy now instead of waiting.

Also, note that its not just Ready at Dawn, but a collaboration with Santa Monica Studios!

but this looks quite exceptional….seems like the PSP is FINALLY showing off what it can really do! now only if MPW doesnt get ported to the PSN…..

The game looks really pretty for a PSP game. Chains of Olympus was one of the few PSP games I enjoyed, so I’m expecting big things out of this one.

Here comes the milking…… Anyways, the game looks pretty good for a handheld game.
