If we rewound a year ago today and asked ourselves if we thought Sony would be facing console shortages come the Holiday season of 2009, would any of us think it was possible? It’s highly doubtful. However, according to SCEA head honcho, Jack Tretton, the PlayStation 3 hardware has seen a sales increase of 300% since the price cut down to $299 earlier this month.
“We are up about 300 percent over where we were pre-price drop,” he told Reuters. “We are up significantly versus last year.”
What is even more shocking is that fact that Tretton actually believes the company could be facing hardware shortages come November and December due to consumer demand. This is something I’m sure none of us truly saw coming.
“If things continue at this pace, it is conceivable that there will be product shortages.”
It’s starting to seem like things can only get better from here on out.
