New PlayStation Portable 2 Details Leaked?

According to Japanese newspaper Nikkei, Sony’s upcoming PlayStation Portable 2 is going to include a feature set unlike any other gaming hand held on the market. The only fear that I have is that Sony is trying to touch base with too many features at one time which will result in a lot of shovelware which will result in a smaller set of game changing titles gamers crave.

If this information is correct, the PSP2 will utilize an OLED screen, which has generally been known as a technology that doesn’t mesh well with sunlight. However, the OLED also includes touchscreen capabilities on the underside of the unit — something that feels like a pretty random decision.

Finally, the PSP2 also incorporates 3G capabilities as well as standard wireless LAN like its predecessor. The addition of 3G is great, but we’ll have to see if it comes at a cost of a monthly subscription and who will be providing the 3G access in North America and Europe.

What do you guys think about these details? Are these things you’re wanting the PSP2 to include or no?

  1. So we can call with the psp2? Wow. Is Sony going to compete the PSP2 against their Sony-Ericsson? I don’t think it’s a good idea… I personally have been a big fan of Sony because they were adding a lot of features to their consoles/ products and hopefully it’ll be the same with the PSP2.

The 3G is for gaming online when away from an Wi-Fi spot, not for calling 😛
