Ubisoft has announced the development of a new Prince of Persia video game, bringing the series back to the Sands of Time, despite the publisher’s previous statements that they would not be returning to the hit Sands of Time trilogy.
The cat was let out of the bag when series creator Jordan Mechner filed a new Prince of Persia trademark to be used with video games. Today Ubisoft confirmed the rumours, with the announcement of Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands.
A return to the Sands of Time storyline is surely due to Jerry Bruckheimer bringing the franchise to the screens, with Jake Gyllenhaal in the starring role.
“Our new title will be true to the Prince of Persia roots and should leverage the fantastic impact the movie is going to have on our franchise,” Yves Guillemot, Ubisoft’s CEO, said during an investor call earlier today.
Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands will be released for consoles and handhelds in May 2010. And yes, that’s the same month as the film’s release. Could this be the best video game and movie tie-in ever?
[UPDATE] – We’ve just got word from Geoff Keighley that the game’s first trailer will debut on Spike TV’s VGAs in two weeks time on December 12th 2009.
This will definitely be better than that new mediocre release.
wow really ? prepare for a rape of the trilogy
