NPD November Hardware and Software Sales

NPD has released their latest hardware and software sales for the US, showing respectable numbers for all the consoles. Though their order is slightly surprising.

Despite Sony’s Black Friday boasting, the PS3 came behind the Xbox 360 and Wii this month, selling 710,400 units. Of course, this outperformed the console’s previous November sales by quite some distance; the PS3 sold 466,000 in 2007’s November and only 378,000 in 2008.

SCEA’s Jack Tretton said of the console’s performance:

In November, PS3 was the only hardware console to see any growth when compared to last November, experiencing an 88% lift and a 122% increase from the previous month.

Metacritic also unveiled this week its 2009 Game Platform Power Rankings, in which PS3 titles topped the charts on overall game quality, tallying up five of the top ten best reviewed games in 2009 and with Uncharted 2: Among Thieves taking best reviewed game of the year.

Combined with the Xbox 360’s 819,500 units sold during the month, the console’s software sales saw Microsoft announce 2009 to be the destination of the Xbox 360’s most successful November.

Nintendo managed to sell almost 1.7 million DS handheld systems, beating their own 2008 record for the best video game system saes for the month of November ever. Find the month’s hardware and software sales below.

  1. I think the reason 360 sold alot, was because of that massive ban MS had on consoles. All those people that had modded 360s, had to go out and buy new ones to play online.

  2. Well if you add the EU and Japan sales then the PS3 is above the 360.
Only the US seems to prefer the 360, weird.

  3. @ jimmy i have noticed that and i do that its weird lol. apparently EU and Japan have some sence?

  4. it’s so funny that people really care that 360 is beating ps3 in sales when the Wii is still owning them in sales. why do people call it a fad system when it is still outselling the competition years after its release. shows that the Wii, like Pokemon, is not a fad.

You are soooo right man. Over 1 million 360s were banned so yeah you know they went out and bought another. This month the PS3 will reign supreme over the 360 hands down….unless they ban more consoles lol.

  6. @jimmy, no offense to the 360 fans but they bought a console that has something bad is going to happen to me soon written all over it. sure lots of people have em but alot of people either had to buy a whole new one or repair theres because its made with cheap hardware….well thats what im told anyway
