Michael Pachter is never too worried about letting people know what he thinks about the game industry and despite this being a very pro-Sony comment, I still find it hard to take the guy seriously (don’t worry, you feel the same about me). Regardless, it goes without saying that the Uncharted 2 hype is legit and that Uncharted 2 is indeed a game change for Sony as a console company. With strong sales coming through the months of September with the price drop, Uncharted 2 does have the potential to continue that strength of sales for the company throughout October.
“I think it’s the game Sony always wanted and I think it’s been a long time since we’ve seen a ‘Game of the Year’ kind of game come out of Sony. So I think it matters and it’s got hardcore appeal.” Later adding, “It’s a game changer for them, its coming out in a nice little window in October and it’s coming out right on the heels of the price cut. I think it keeps them ahead of Microsoft for a bit.”
I find it funny that Pachter does not include Metal Gear Solid 4 as a game that came out of Sony. I understand that it was developed by Kojima productions and published by Konami, but if we’re being honest, it still came out for the Sony console exclusively. Moving on — Pachter doesn’t think that the new release in the Uncharted franchise will move millions of consoles, but he does feel it will move hundreds of thousands.
“I think that certainly Uncharted will push a couple of hundred thousand incremental boxes. Not five million boxes but two or three hundred thousand incremental boxes absolutely.”
Uncharted 2 releases next week on October 13th. Be sure to check out our review coming later today.
