Pachter: It’s a mistake not to develop for PS3

13 Comments | posted

As you know, Michael Pachter has his own weekly podcast called the Pach Attack! (original, we know) and it’s always good for quotes in order to create articles for. On this week’s show, Pachter took aim at the famous PC developer, Valve, and its lack of titles for the PlayStation 3. In fact, not only did he take aim, he let the company know that they’re making a huge mistake by not doing so.

“I still kinda wonder about companies like Valve that seem to not be interested in the PS3, I think that’s kind of a mistake, because they are a first rate, you know, world class developers.  I think that they could make some games that could really do well on the PS3.”

This comes on the late heels of Valve saying that they are looking into PS3 development, so Pachter may be late to the game, but he’s also not telling any of us something we don’t already know. We get it, Valve is missing out on a ton of sales by ignoring a platform entirely — thankfully, they plan on changing that.

Too bad they didn’t plan on changing that with Portal 2. I know it is still early but I really hope they do announce a PS3 version to be released this year as well.

Valve haven’t developed on PS3 due to it being difficult to code for. To me that’s a lame excuse in the first place and shows a lazy company. Sure, you could argue that this means the quality is better, but with the number of cross platform games with 99% likeness; I doubt their quality would be reduce due to cross platform developing.

Who cares about Vale, I never liked any of their games.Screw you Valve!

World class developers? Seriously? They can’t even figure the structure on the Playstation 3 out, yet alone code and do the imports for it.

im not sure if its realy badd news that they are not deweloping for the ps3 because team fortres sucked, and left 4 dead 2 felt more like an expantion pack than a game
if they fuck up half life 3 im gona boy cut them

Michael Pachter never came across as the smartest guy in the world, but it’d be cool to see Valve develop for PS3. Since I own a 360 as well as a PS3, I’m impartial on the matter.

he’s right its a big mistake as there missing out on the big install base and they could possible make some new great games which take advantage of the ps3. There loss i say

This guy changes his mind like his underwear. He just goes with the flow.

Valve can’t even program for Ps3 I mean seriously they had to port Orange Box. Also Pachter is a fanboy for Ps3 (Remember his “Predictions”?) But he speaks the truth about not making games on the Ps3, However Valve is doing pretty well with only the PC and 360

of course it is a HUGE mistake not developing for the PS3, but really tho….i dont care if Valve does or not

i never liked any of their games (not a fan of FPSs so there goes half-life lol)

well, Valve is a “great” developer but I started questioning how “great” they actually were when they said that they didn’t wanna develop for the PS3 cuz it has complicated architecture… really? world class?

Valve is a great developer. But Ignoring a platform completely? Bad business strategy.
I hope left 4 dead come to ps3.
