PlayStation 3’s Top 10 Gaming Moments

Ever since the release of Sony’s PlayStation 3, gamers have enjoyed the opportunity to play game after game and experience jaw dropping moment after jaw dropping moment. After all, those are the main reasons we game in the first place, isn’t it? Without those moments that keeps us on the edge of our seats anticipating the next action or plot in the story to play out, what else is there to play for?

PlayStation 3 owners have had the chance to play games that have delivered unforgettable moments like the first time you entered the world of Uncharted to that first headshot you delivered on the Helghan’s home planet. Regardless of which genre of game you enjoy most, the PlayStation 3 more than likely has delivered a moment within it that is fit for a King and was able to give you that awe inspiring feeling.

I’ve taken the time to nail down my Top Ten favorite moments in gaming this generation thus far. All of these moments include video segments detailing them and this should be a great feature for anyone who has enjoyed these games as well. So, without further ado, let’s get started. Also – These are in no particular order, just the best moments in a set of 10.

Gaming Moment #1: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Train Climb

How many of you saw this moment in a trailer for just a brief second and had to catch your breath a little bit? It all starts off with Nathan Drake wounded in a train car and the gamer is left with no idea as to why. Is Drake on the verge of death? Not so fast. Making your way through the train cart and then having to traverse up it is one of the greatest gaming experiences ever, let alone this generation. Naughty Dog did a fantastic job dragging you into the world of Uncharted 2 and it was with moments like this that they succeeded.

  1. Uncharted 2’s train climb? I found that part to be rather boring. Actually, I thought most of the game was a snoozefest.

  2. I can list several of my top ten gaming moments just with MGS4, the frogs battle being my #1.

  3. I can agree with a lot of what’s here. I LOVED Act 4 in MGS4, and the same goes for the whole of Rapture in BioShock.

As for Uncharted 2, I liked climbing the train, but I think the fight on the train as it moved up the mountain was way more memorable. The change in climate from jungle to snow-capped mountain in a matter of minutes was fantastic. And while I enjoyed playing Killzone 2 when it released, it never really stuck with me in the months after. I can’t say I remember much of what happened over the course of the campaign (though I sunk a decent amount of time into the MP).

  4. Ooooh, now that you mention it: the first time I picked up a sniper rifle on killzone 2, then tried to take a shot while scratching my nose just to realize the sniper was sixaxis enabled. . . . . . epic xD

Uncharted 2 was a snoozefest? It was one of the most exciting games out that year and possibly of the decade due to you actually playing its huge set pieces. Act 4 in MGS4 was one of its worst – Act 2 over it any day.

  6. @Patrick Steen: I wanted to love Uncharted. I thought the game wss beautiful, story was great, writing was phenomenal, voice acting was excellent, but the gameplay itself . . . I felt distanced from it. I dunno, maybe it was the fact that I find making my own chaos more fun than scripted chaos. Game is still fantastic, just a little boring in my opinion. I’d give it an 8.

I also would have to agree with Fallout 3 and Bioshock. Both of those scenarios were jaw-dropping. I remember first escaping Vault 101. I just marveled at the world for a good ten minutes before even walking to Megaton. Best game of 2008 IMO. Bioshock had a similar effect. I love a good atmosphere. It’s probably my second-most valued aspect of a game, following gameplay. I can’t speak for the other scenarios mentioned, as I haven’t played much of those games.

Hmm, well #10 certainly was a spoiler :p I’ve yet to play that game and want to someday so I guess I know who’s gonna die now.

Most of the list I agree with. Flower is really quite the experience and Uncharted 2 is one of the best games on the platform. Demon’s Souls… ahh, what an unforgiving game. That Tower Knight didn’t give me any trouble surprisingly, fighting my way with a magician only to find out I had to melee him with my puny attacks. Finally, he fell and it was such a relief not to have to make my way back to him. Tomorrow will have another awesome gaming moment though once I unpack God of War III and carefully slide the disc in my PS3 😉

  8. @VofE – I think the statute of limitations has expired for Heavenly Sword spoilers, lol.

  9. VofEscaflowne March 15, 2010 @ 15:41

It should expire when it actually drops in price.

  10. LMAO @ WonsAuto

  11. indeed, Act 4 in MGS4 was AWESOME!!

    by far my favorite act

  12. To be honest (and as much as I hate to admit it), one of the moments that made my jaw drop this generation was the nuke in COD4…I was just blown away with the atmosphere set as you crawled out of the destroyed chopper to find help just to see everyone was turned to dust but you.

  13. @TRF I agree with what you say, it’s an amazing game I just can’t get into it and I never feel like playing any more I got 5% of the trophies.

  14. That return to Shadow Moses was pretty emotional for me.Heavy hitting stuff.

  15. Wow, bad list is bad 😛

Uncharted 2 train climb as #1? God that scene was awful imo, there were several parts of UC2 that were more jawdropping. Such as the ice caves, and more importantly, the village in the campaign.

#1 most epic scene of all time would HAVE to be the boss fight between Snake & Ocelote in MGS4. I think 7 or 8 of the top10 should be scenes from MGS4 alone.

  16. Act 4 in mgs4 should be number 1! It was so amazing reliving gd old shadow moses and getting to play in metal gear rex. so many memories :). Complete awesomeness all the way through.

I am a a major fan of the metal gear solid series and the Return to Shadow Moses was and still is the best moments I’ve ever experiences of the Playstation 3. I didn’t like that act though. But the thought of roaming through the halls that I’ve been through ON THE PLAYSTATION 1 just blew me away, I was like ” Oh yeah this happened..” I started to remember all of the good times I had with the first MGS. The little Scarabs are annoying in Mgs4 but seriously the return to Shadow Moses is just utterly amazing.

  18. i dont beleive you put the train climb ahead of the part where you traverse across the train going through the mountains that was one of the most impressive gaming moments ever

  19. The train climb was great but was not near the greatest moment in Uncharted 2.

  20. I think Killzone 2 opening cinematic should have been number 1.

  21. winne the pooh March 18, 2010 @ 03:34

i enjoyed jumping from car to car in uncharted 2 most as no other game as ever had any thing like it

  22. heh Train Surfing is fun but nothing new. now Heavenly Sword was lovely and breath takeing all around ^^.
