PS3 Ranks #1 for Streaming Netflix

There are a lot of ways to watch Netflix. You can stream movies and TV shows on most smart phones, on your PS Vita, on your 3DS, your Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360, PS3, most smart TVs and via web browsers on PCs. I am probably missing one, but the fact of the matter is that there are a lot of ways to watch Netflix. Out of all of these ways, however, across the globe, the PS3 is the most used device for streaming Netflix.

This comes as a bit of a shock to me, personally, as it seemed like Microsoft was doing their best to posit the Xbox 360 as the “media center” of the living room. However, forcing consumers to be a Gold subscription member is probably detrimental to their numbers. I still don’t understand why they charge people that additional fee to access services they already subscribe to, it still baffles me, but that’s besides the point.

Netflix Navigation on PS3

Netflix CEO Redd Hastings had some input to offer on the subject over on the PS Blog:

“PS3 is our largest TV-connected platform in terms of Netflix viewing, and this year, at times, even surpassed the PC in hours of Netflix enjoyment to become our number one platform overall. PS3 is a natural fit for Netflix in terms of developing and first deploying our most advanced features. We can transparently update our application with new features on a daily basis, and through the free PlayStation Network, people around the world can sign up for Netflix directly from their PS3.”

This is pretty huge news that really puts into perspective and is definitely a great sign for Sony as a streaming platform going forward into the next-generation specifically. Let us know what you think of this news down in the comments below!

  1. i watch my moves on blurays rather than netflix, but i can see why its the preferred platform for streaming movies, since the ps3 is the only console right now that supports uncompressed full 1080p
(im not sure if the wii-U 1080p is native or done with post processing filters like on other consoles, someone please let me know)
