PSUni Interview: Submit your questions to Naughty Dog

96 Comments | posted

Say the words ‘Naughty’ and ‘Dog’ and you’ll no longer be thinking of your mischievous Labrador, you’ll immediately have the image of a PlayStation games developer who created one of the best video games of 2009. Now we’re going to give you the chance to ask them your very own questions.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves was not only critically well received, it’s now become the fastest growing first party PS3 title, and has also brought in many a Game of the Year award. So we thought it was about time that we let you ask your burning questions as PlayStation University reflects on the success of Uncharted 2 and looks toward the future of Naughty Dog.

Thanks to Arne Meyer and our friends at Naughty Dog and Sony Computer Entertainment UK, we’re giving you the chance to submit your questions to the development team in the comments section below. Anything you want to know about the Uncharted 2′s development, the continuing changes to the game’s online multiplayer, and possibly where the team might head next; it’s all up for grabs. So post your well thought-out questions below!

We can’t promise that all of your questions will be answered, but we’ll all try our darnedest to get the best questions through to the Dogs and make sure the most in-depth answers are published. So hit us with your worst (best)!

  • Please ask them if there is a new DLC coming and if they’re making it free.

  • Naughty Dog first I would like to thank you for changing the multiplayer, I could not stand the grenades as primary weapons and over-powered shotguns, over-powered belongs in mw2. Also I would like to know if the rumors of Uncharted 3 being about Sir Francis Drake are true? Though I guess i’m trying my luck lol.

  • Did it takes you guys longer to create all the cinematic scenes in Uncharted 1 or Uncharted 2?

  • Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune was absolutely amazing. However, Uncharted 2 pushed the limits of technology beyond what gamers imagined. My main question relates to the amazing train scene. Here ya go:

    1) From a technical standpoint, how did you manage to design a moving level that adjusted to the PLAYERS action?
    2) Multiplayer support is outstanding. While competing with some heavy competition, what were your main goals to add into Uncharted 2′s multiplayer?
    3) How involved is Naughty Dog in the creation of the Uncharted movie?

Thanks for your time. Enjoy my fansite! :)

  • You’ve created plenty of DLC, but are you planning to put tonnes more content on the PlayStation Store just like Media Molecule did with LittleBigPlanet, and how many Uncharted 2: Among Thieves DLC can we expect?

  • @Balram

Good question, I also would like to know how many more DLC will they release for Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. I hope they contine to support the game and release more DLC in the future.

  • Another one:

How did you decided what needed to be improved from Uncharted 1 to Uncharted 2 graphics wise? and so, what do you think will be needed to top Uncharted 2?.

We saw a huge improvement between the first and second games; Uncharted 2 has bigger enviroments AND lots of details and stuff all over the place. Seeing how having the engine from U1 helped making U2 more badass. Now that you have far more experiencie to build U3. . . . . . . . .

Finally, a personal suggestion: I think the graphics are awesome so for U3, I would like to see more enviroment destruction that is not scripted but reacts to player and enemy actions (a grenade blowing out part of a wall or leaving a small hole on the floor, gunfire blowing boxes and stuff).

  • Naughty Dog, please return the multiplayer back to its original health and just make the lowered health in a new playlist, it would be much apreciated!

  • Here is another question. Naughty Dog, are you planning on making an Uncharted 3 game? The Uncharted 1 and 2 games were both major success, so an Uncharted 3 game would be really good.

  • Naughty Dog, what’s the inspiration behind the character Nathan Drake?

  • 1. What games have you guys been playing over the past few months?
    2. With Uncharted 2 setting new standards (graphics, sound, writing, voice acting, etc.), do you feel pressured to set even higher standards with Uncharted 3 or whatever your next project is?

  • i can understand about the infamous post but why this topic is back in latest section???

  • Yea, why was the topic moved up to the new article. Was thinking it was updated or something.

  • Have you considered making a spin-off title to Uncharted like giving background towards Sully or Chloe?

  • First off, I would like to say that I am proud Naughty Dog fan! I have bought every one of your games released on the playstation consoles dating all the way back to the first Crash Bandicoot game.

With that being said, I would like to ask if there were any games, movies, books, etc that served as main influences towards making the Uncharted games?

  • Lots of questions:

    1) What is the best way to give feedback on the game? ND Blog, PS Blog entries? There is no official channel it seems, and I’m not sure all of the online community knows how to participate in feedback.
    2) What is ND’s policy on glitches and exploits in the multiplayer? Do they want feedback, do they punish or do they just fix issues in the code/game maps? This compliments the first question.
    3) How does ND view the servers and DLC for online multiplayer Uncharted 2? The essence of my question is: how long will they support the product, do they have any goals (2 years uptime, expand it to support Uncharted 3 multiplayer, etc.) and what metrics will they use to wind things down (less than 1000 players/day, etc.)?
    4) Is it possible that new co-op objective missions could be coming?

Thanks, I’m a big fan and haven’t gotten this much value out of a game ever before!

  • First if all, thanks for making such a great game and other great games since the PS1.
I would like to know how much of the system (PS3) is being used for UC2?A Rough estimated percent , would be nice. Are you guys interested in working on other genres, such a rpg based on Uncharted Universe or possibly a mmorpg, or maybe even a first person shooter? Thanks for making great games!

  • Is there any hope for Uncharted 3 to be bigger, better, more graphically enhanced then the 150+ award winning Uncharted 2?

  • Nice work so far ND. Now on to the questions:

    1. Is it possible to see Eddy Raja return in U3? Yes he was pretty much mauled by zombies and who knows what. But he was a badass with a funny sarcastic tone. He complements Drake perfectly, with the two cracking jokes at each other and ready to kill each other at any second. It was nice seeing him again in the Eye of Indra, so seeing him again in U3 would be a real treat. So if Eddy somehow managed to survive and escape the zombie spaniards, and managed to squeeze into the third game, that would be amazing.

    2. Any new co-op objective maps for multiplayer? I know there was a DLC schedule created before, and it seems to be pretty accurate, but can you guys confirm it? If so, what new maps will there be? I’d love to see some co-op from the lost city. And also a few co-op levels from the first game. The jungle, the fort, and the monastery seem like great levels for some co-op action.

    Thanks
