Sony Pictures looks set to close a deal with Ubisoft over the film rights to the Assassin’s Creed franchise, according to Variety.
Ubi is said to have started shopping the rights several months ago, with Universal another company initially interested, amongst others. It is however Sony who is in final negotiations with the video game publisher.
The news emerges following Ubisoft’s launch of its own motion picture division – headed by Hitman and Taken producer Luc Besson – earlier in the year, with the aim to have more control over development of its franchises away from video games than other publishers in the past.
Like us, the gamers, Ubisoft wants quality. Let’s hope we get it with Assassin’s Creed.
