Here's a bit of news for all the Jak & Daxter fans out there (me). Before Naughty Dog started working on The Last of Us, the company mulled around the thought of bringing Jak & Daxter back into the fray. What really makes this idea appealing was that they were wanting to use what they learned from Uncharted and put into the Jak & Daxter formula.

"Something that we talked about early on was, 'Lets go back and apply what we've learned with the Uncharted games to Jak & Daxter,'" co-president of Naughty Dog Evan Wells said in a recent interview.

"Even if we felt like we're going to give the fans another Jak & Daxter, we felt we weren't going to give them the game that they wanted. We would end up limiting the direction that the company had this passion for while simultaneously not creating the game that fans wanted. We just realized we were going to just do everybody a disservice."

Even though Jak & Daxter didn't get the reboot some of us may have wanted, we still get to enjoy the great PS2 series with the recent release of the Jak & Daxter HD Collection. Still, fans must still crave not only a new entry to the series, but one that uses mechanics from the ever popular Uncharted franchise.

Naughty Dog has announced that their upcoming The Last of Us will feature some sort of online component. Not much information is out there about what it will bring to the game. The Director of the game doesn't seem to know too much about it at this time, or they just want it to be a big surprise.

Director Bruce Straley told Game Informer in the latest issue of their magazine, "We’re going to have some sort of online component. We’re working on a bunch of ideas, but we haven’t nailed anything down. We definitely know it’s going to be awesome."

So there you have it. Maybe it will be multiplayer, though it is hard to envision multiplayer in a game with two lone survivors in a fairly vacant (aside from the crazy monsters) city. However, we don't know a great deal about the game itself, so perhaps other characters will make an appearance.

Now, the screens, as well as the first few gameplay details, are exclusive to Game Informer. In the interest of honoring the sacred pact between developer and publication-sold-exclusively-through-the-largest-games-store-in-America (and also not to get sued pantsless), you'll have to head over to their website to get the full scoop.

The images are below, and be sure to check out GI to get the sweet, sweet details.

It will share many elements with the Uncharted series such as the voice actors' voices being captured along with their body movements, as well as sharing Uncharted 3's core technology. The Last of Us will also transition to several great environments much like the other Uncharted games.

Other details include putting more emphasis on facial expression as well as Naughty Dog's story explaining something deeper about human beings and what it means to exist.

Remember that The Last of Us is due out at the end of 2012 or the beginning of 2013 and will be exclusive to the PS3.

First impressions based on the first trailer for Naughty Dog's secret project The Last of Us were overwhelmingly positive; it seems that we're finally getting the story-driven zombie survival game that we've been promised so many times before. As it turns out, though, those sentiments are only half-true.

In a preview on Eurogamer, Last of Us creative director Neil Druckmann and game director Bruce Straley had a chance to dish about what direction they're taking with the new game. Straley insists that The Last of Us is "not a zombie game." Druckmann elaborates, saying that "If the game was about the monsters, we would have not showed them. The story's not about them, so [we thought] let's get it out of the way."

Instead, the story would focus on the interaction between the two main characters -- Joel and his 14-year-old daughter, who has no memory of a pre-apocalyptic world -- rather than the fungal mutants that threaten them at every turn.

"This is going to sound corny and it might not appeal to gamers, but I would say it's a love story," says Druckmann. "It's not a romantic love story, it's a love story about a father-daughter-like relationship."

There's plenty more interesting insight, so be sure to check out Eurogamer's full preview.

If you haven't been following our news recently, there has been some hype around the new PS3 exclusive making an appearance at the Spike VGA's. Now that said day has passed, here's the slice of heaven we were treated with:

Oh Naughty Gods, you never fail to impress. What we have here is the not-so-usual case of a master game studio rejuvenating an arguably overdone and dying genre. This could be the mature, story-heavy, zombie survival kind of game the gaming world has been wanting to see for some time.

Now get back to worshiping the Naughty Dog shrines in your closets, and we'll let you know when the next piece of news comes.

Naughty Dog's Uncharted has been a critical success in its four years of existence, and sales have unsurprisingly reflected that. In an interview with Industry Gamers, Sony's Asad Quizilbash confirmed that sales for the franchise have so far totaled over 13 million units worldwide.

Quizilbash also said that Sony shipped 3.8 million copies of Uncharted 3 on day one, and U3's first-week sales doubled those of Uncharted 2, "far exceeding" Sony's expectations.

See, kids? When you've got a great product and dozens of millions of dollars to advertise it, you too can find success!
