Platinum Games (proud non-porter for Bayonetta) and SEGA are proud to announce that their upcoming shooter, Vanquish, isn’t just your regular old shooter. In fact, it’s going to be a brand new take on the shooter genre entirely.
According to Shinji Mikami in the latest issue of PlayStation Magazine:
“In making Vanquish, I wanted to create a game that was speedier and more acrobatic than other shooters,” he said. “It’s a brand new kind of shooting game that’s incredibly tense.”
Mikami adds: “I wanted to make a shooter where the player is active – taking people on. I didn’t want the game to be like other third-person action titles, where people are just trying to survive, taking pot-shots at enemies from behind cover. So it is this aggression and active spirit that I wanted to capture with Vanquish”
No offense to Mikami, but the description he’s giving can be used to describe pretty much 50% of the shooters available on the market. Considering the poor end result of Bayonetta on the PlayStation 3, it’s going to be hard for PS3 owners to justify continuing to support a title from Platinum Games. It’ll be interesting to see how this one plays out.
