Zipper not abandoning M.A.G. for SOCOM 4

Zipper Interactive will not be abandoning their recently released 256-player online game despite the announcement of SOCOM 4.

Today Zipper Interactive announced a new SOCOM game for the PlayStation 3, and surprisngly for a release later this year. The fact that the studio is releasing two games in 2010 has resulted in many gamers believing that the studio will move on from M.A.G. and concentrate solely on the newly announced sequel. The team has made it clear that this is not the case.

On the Official PlayStation Blog, Jeremy Dunham, Sr. Community Manager at Zipper Interactive, replied to naysayers:

“We’re still 100% committed to supporting MAG. There’s some crossover here at the studio, but we have dedicated teams to each,” adding, “(Plus, we didn’t just start this yesterday, we’ve been working on it for awhile). Dunham further commented, “We have some exciting things for MAG coming up and for a long time after.”

And who wouldn’t believe them when they’re team currently comprises of around 150 developers? You can check out the SOCOM 4 announcement and screenshots here.

  1. Was anyone expecting them to abandon M.A.G.? They didn’t design those massive servers for only a year or two of use.

  2. There’s no reason to believe they would have, the same way DICE isn’t going to shut down Bad Company 2 when Medal of Honor comes out.

  3. good to hear :), of course i didnt expect them too, currently ive been switching between MAG and BC2, both awesome, games, and totally worth the buys

  4. huh? who says they’re abandoning MAG?

“huh? who says they’re abandoning MAG?”

They are just saying they’ll support MAG so when the time comes when some dude finally asks that question it would be answered. Hopefully supporting MAG won’t hinder Socom 4, because if its like any of the latest Socom games then we have a little problem =/

  6. I’m not getting MAG, probably, since I don’t have time or cash to get that many games, but it’s kind of common sense. Why would they abandon the game if it has a decent following?

“Who said they are going to abandon MAG? Come out show ur face”
even that thought never crossed my mind that zipper would abandon MAG, coz they know if they abandon MAG, players will be abandoning SOCOM

  9. @Fatality: meh, many others loved the game (my brother included). i think the game is overall pretty damn good

  10. i think mag is better still

  11. Im thinking of picking up MAG soon and will be following closely how this new socom effects MAG. Have they announced any dlc for MAG like new maps or modes? Sounds like they have something planned for MAG

  12. dont worry guys, they’ll have thjis stuff sorted out

  13. Considering MAG is an online-only game, they won’t be abandoning it for a long time.

  14. I have to say that MAG is a good FPS but not my type of FPS. I’m picking Battlefield Bad Company 2
