Final Fantasy XIII-2 Officially Announced + Debut Trailer

I know this should be considered big news, but I find it difficult to be either excited or just pissed off about this announcement in general. Final Fantasy XIII was obviously a mixed bag that ended up with people either falling in love with it or hating it entirely — however, there was always a lot of criticism towards Square Enix’s decision to cut a ton of content out of the game. Obviously the question remains: Where did this content go?

That’s why I’m struggling to be excited about this announcement. It’s completely my own speculation, but what if Square cut the content off at a certain possible end point in FFXIII only to re-continue from that point in FFXIII-2 with it? That would mean due to disc limitations of the Xbox 360, other gamers are now going to be pushed into spending double the amount of money they would have otherwise. Remember — this is complete speculation and should not be taken any more seriously than just my own thinking process.

Regardless, Final Fantasy XIII-2 is a reality and will be releasing on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation. Check out the debut trailer below (if it’s removed due to copyright, sorry guys).

  1. Well I liked FFXIII a lot so I am excited to play this.

BTW your speculation about 360 disk space is off the walls ridiculous.

    • No, it isn’t. Developers are forced to pay for discs past the 2nd on all fronts. Splitting into two games instead of one and saving on 2-3 discs total at millions of units is a significant amount of money.

PS: All of the developers up to today that have confirmed cut content due to 360 disc space say, “Hi.”

      • Uh yeah content in the context of Final Fantasy XIII. Last I checked this is a new game with a new story. So basically what you are saying is Final Fantasy XIII which was a complete game, had some content cut like every other game out there, and that content was enough to make a entirely different game which would of originally would of been in FFXIII if it wasn’t for the 360. Great logic <_<.

Sorry, but that makes no sense.

  2. Lol You do realize that that is straight from the horse’s mouth, right?

Square Enix announced prior to the launch of Final Fantasy XIII that it had cut out so much content from FFXIII that it was enough to create an entirely new game out of. They then went on to explain and “promise” that the cut content, would never be released as individual DLC.

Please keep up with what has actually gone on with this situation.

  3. So a full zone around Lighting’s home, a secret Nora resistance base and an amusement park with a zoo are the seeds for a full blown new story sequel?

    Now I see!

    • Right — because that’s obviously the only content that was cut from the the original game. Because, we all know developers reveal everything in its entirety when a situation like that arises.

If Square Enix comes out and says they cut out enough content to create an entirely new game with — who am I not to judge when something as rare as a sequel comes out for a Final Fantasy game shortly after something like that has been revealed?

You’re right. I see it now though. OBVIOUSLY Square Enix is in the business of losing money. So what they did was take all of the assets they cut out of Final Fantasy XIII originally and trashed the millions upon millions of dollars that went into them. Great logic.

      • Well I can only comment on what we do know. While there was enough content to make another game, that does not mean literally a separate game, just the quantity of content. So far what we know on what was cut was all in the context of FFXIII.

  4. FFXIII-2 is still all in the context of FFXIII. It’s a sequel taking place in the exact same world primarily with the exact same characters. Talented script writers can change anything around to take old content and fit it with semi-new content.

    • Well I have seen on the story is “a brand-new story which stems from the previous title”.

Could mean a lot of things.

  5. What do you expect it to say? “The exact same story, just a new cover.”? A sequel is ALWAYS a brand new story which stems from the previous title…that is what makes it a sequel.

  6. Lack of evidence?

    1. Square Enix announces they’re cutting off a massive amount of content from FFXIII
    2. Square Enix announces that they’ve cut so much content out they could create an entirely new game with it (obviously within the world of FFXIII).
    3. Square Enix announces that they will not create separate DLC with that extra content.
    4. Square Enix reveals FFXIII-2 (surprise!).
    5. Various developers admit disc size of the 360 was main factor of having to cut content out of its games.

    Right…lack of evidence.

    • Sorry,

      Lack of good evidence.

      • Right and timed exclusives that release later on the PS3 don’t often include exclusive content not found or launched in the 360 version.

It’s not like developers are forced to aim for equality of content due to disc limitations or anything like that. That would never happen — neither would those developers still trying to find a way to bank on what is left over…

Nobody lives in a world like that. It’s all just a lack of any real evidence…by the way, where is your good evidence to support otherwise? Oh…right, because Square Enix said it’s a “new” story, LOL

  7. Can’t wait. I was one of the people in the mixed bag who enjoyed the game quite a bit.

And yeah, I don’t think this is all from the FFXIII cut content. I’m sure they were exaggerating quite a bit when they said that they cut enough content to make a full game out of.
