Japan PS Vita sales at lowest point

Sad to say that the PS Vita in Japan is seeing its lowest numbers so far, despite the fact that a new title, Gravity Rush, for the Vita secured very high sales numbers.

From February 6th to the 12th Sony’s Vita totals numbered only 13,939. Gravity Rush, on the other hand, totaled 43,462, gaining the second spot on Japan’s software sales chart. It appears the the PS Vita sales were so low that it fell below PSP weekly sales, with the PSP still being quite popular in Japan.

It will be interesting to see how the PS Vita fairs here in the U.S. now that people have got their hands on it. With such a stellar lineup for us, perhaps the Vita will sale better here in the beginning of its life cycle with the U.S.

  1. I think with games like Uncharted, Hot Shots and Wipeout, the system will see a good launch window in the states. The main problem is not the software but rather the cost of entry to play the software. If there was a great movie out that was getting rave reviews but you had to pay 5-7x the price of the movie just to get into the theater and then still buy the ticket, I’d say the movie might not get seen as much.

I will no doubt love the Vita and am waiting on pins and needles for it. I will even switch my pre-order from the Wifi to the 3G model. However, there’s no doubt that this is an expensive hobby that many aren’t willing to pay for at this time.
