Kojima and Square Enix talk Final Fantasy VII remake over dinner

Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima had dinner with Final Fantasy Versus XIII director Tetsuya Nomura, Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada and Metal Gear art director Yoji Shinkawa today according to Andriasang.com, with one of the group discussions going over the possibilities of a Final Fantasy VII remake.

The website reports that one of Kojima’s twitter followers asked him to bring up the remake in conversation with Nomura with Kojima responding that he passed it along.

Among other topics in the dinner discussion, Kojima revealed talk about hurrying the release of Kingdom Hearts 3D and wanting Wada to develop Seiken Densetsu/Secret of Mana 5.

While the dinner occasion could have been a friendly meet and greet, it is possible that business was discussed. Ever since Square Enix showed the Final Fantasy VII PS3 tech demo in 2005, rumors and talk surrounding the remake have continued on as some kind of lingering hope that will never die. Both Nomura and Square Enix’s Yoshinori Kitase have shown interest in the past in bringing the title to next generation platforms, however have also stated due to the amount work involved in recreating FFVII to the quality seen in Final Fantasy XIII would be “unrealistic” as it would take three to four times longer than the three year development process it took them with Final Fantasy XIII.

  1. i gues it be a good thing to remake this game for the yunger public as long as it stays the same from a full gameplay, story, scenario, perspective, but some part of me is saying that this is the mark of the apocalipse for ff7 as you should NOT mess with perfection, voice acting alone could mess up the experience if done ewen slightly incorect

  2. Fuck a remake. Make a sequel to FF7. It can take place after advent children. Then they utilize/recycle the assets created And then do the remake.
