Suda 51: Interested in PS3 Arc and Heavy Rain-style game [UPDATE]

Suda 51, CEO of Grasshopper Manufacture, has of late been working hard on brining No More Heroes to the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but following this Wii-port the developer has expressed interest in making games for both of the HD console’s motion-control systems.

In conversation with GameSpot UK, Goichi Suda (Suda 51) said that he was “very interested” in making games for the PS3 motion controller (presumed to be titled PlayStation Arc) and Xbox 360’s Project Natal. He added that such games would go further than a simple recreation of the No More Heroes Wii formula, where he “will make some original IP to fit that control system.”

Interestingly, Suda 51 also complimented Quantic Dream’s Heavy Rain, further stating that he’d “very much like” to make a similar title in the future, since he likes the idea of “new designs and anything that gives new experiences to the players,” though he feels that this style of game will be harder to push in Japan.

[UPDATE] – Suda 51 has told Games.fr that he’s less interested in Sony’s Arc, and more in Microsoft’s Natal:

โ€œWhy develop a game for the competition (Sony) while their device is exactly the same as Nintendoโ€™s? I’m not really excited about the gadget from Sony. Natal is great, it would be interesting to work on itโ€

  1. Looking forward to whatever he comes up with next, this guy’s full of all kinds of crazy (good crazy) ideas. Has that NMH PS3 port gotten a NA release date yet?

  2. Ooh, I’ll be looking forward to the next NMH and whatever Heavy Rain-esque games that might be made in the future.

  3. I remember seeing a picture of Suda in a hotel room and in the crner of the room you can see a dildo . Crazy guy .

  4. oh yeah ๐Ÿ™‚ , loved no more heroes on the wii, wonder what it will look like with better visuals on the black beast

  5. damn right they better be! HR is one of those devs who help lead the way to innovation and other righteous sounding things!

  6. this is one of the few people that admit that they got their idea from something else and it wasn’t completely original

Heavy Rain was an innovation that inspires others to produce innovative games rather then pump a gimmicky FPS. XD

  8. FPS’s? ๐Ÿ™

i hope Suda 51 can make something nice out of this….

then Interactive Dramas and the concept for Play, Create, Share will one day become a genre of its own!

The moment I hear that Suda 51 is working on something is when my hype meter shoots up. Killer7… well I don’t know what to say about that one honestly. What a great mind**** and such a unique style to it. No More Heroes are also some of the best games on the Wii and definitely two games that truly take advantage of the Wii motion controllers. Not too much that it gets annoying but just enough to be satisfying when you deliver the final blow, chopping off limbs and blood splattering all over ๐Ÿ˜‰

If he can recreate that genius on the HD consoles in combination with Natal/PS3 wand controller, I’m sure these will stand out and be a must own title. His comment about how he wants to create something in the style of Heavy Rain is even more mind blowing knowing that he’d be behind this. Can’t wait to see what kind of insane idea he comes up with next.

  10. ^ agree NMH is some of the best games on Wii and the only games that i recognize or associate with Wii, best control layout. But it will be interesting to see how Suda 51 works on Arc not Natal, coz Natal is completely different thing, and ARC is similar to Wii Mote, i hope they will make an attempt not to make something similar to Wii and really stand out on ARC

  11. i dont know… it looks kind of weird hope they at least make a good game

  12. Mr Sudha’s version of Heavy Rain would be awesome. HR is my favorite game this year, great visual, with a deep-twisting story and such innovation in controls and storytelling.

  13. yescant wait and since its more acurate then the wiis controllers

  14. If he made a heavy rain style game with ps3 motion controls that would be awesome as heavy rains style fits a motion controller and would work well. I would love the idea of doing specific movements with my hands/arc than with a controller. Would be a lot more immersive which would help what heavy rain tries to achieve.

  15. Correction. If the ad on the Japanese PSN store is any indication… Suda 51 is hard at work bringing the FIRST NO MORE HEROES to PS3/360. They still don’t have a North American publisher… So thank christ for region-free Blu-Ray

  16. NMH on the PS3 would be interesting

  17. I would love to see something like heavy rain from a japanese developer =D

  18. @Clesstan: ………i think they would come up with some pervy wanker stuff lol…wait they

    @Clesstan

You can always try out Killer7 that is made by Suda 51. It’s available for the GameCube and PS2. While it doesn’t share the same exact gameplay as Heavy Rain, the game is still very much focused on the story aspect, delivering one of the most screwed up and downright disturbing stories I have ever played. Chances are that you won’t fully understand what is going on, even after multiple playthroughs, but it’s still worth it. It’ll give you a taste of what to expect if Suda 51 decides to bring us a Heavy Rain type experience for the PS3 ๐Ÿ˜‰

  20. Ummm this article contains ha few quirks at the start it says Lol, Suda 52 and you said there hard at work bringing No More Heroes 2 to the PS3 And X360 When its just No More heroes fix that then you have N4G Quality ^.^

  21. No more heroes was awesome on the wii, but lets see if they can bring something sweet like Heavy Rain.
